Meera Rawat started with a small investment of ₹5,000 to make pickles and preserves from her kitchen in a small village near Dehradun. Today, her business supplies to 20 stores across Dehradun and generates ₹40,000 in monthly revenue. "I always made pickles for my family, and everyone said they were delicious," Meera recalls. "But I never thought I could turn this into a business until the NGO team showed me how." The transformation began when she joined our women's empowerment program. She learned about food safety standards, packaging, branding, and marketing. Most importantly, she learned to believe in herself and her abilities. "The first challenge was convincing my family that this wasn't just a hobby," she explains. "My husband was supportive, but others in the village questioned why I needed to work when we were managing fine." Meera's breakthrough came when she participated in a local food festival organized by our program. Her products were an instant hit, and she received orders worth ₹15,000 in a single day. "That day changed everything," she says with a smile. "I realized that there was a real market for authentic, homemade products. People were willing to pay good money for quality." Today, Meera employs three other women from her village and has plans to expand into organic farming to grow her own ingredients. She has also started teaching other women in her community how to start their own food businesses. "My dream is to create a brand that represents the authentic flavors of Uttarakhand," Meera explains. "I want to show that traditional knowledge and modern business practices can work together beautifully." Her success story has inspired a network of women entrepreneurs across the region, proving that with the right support and training, traditional skills can become the foundation for modern businesses.
