Kamala Devi, 42, from Pauri Garhwal district, exemplifies the impact of our Community Health Program. A mother of three who had never worked outside her home, she joined our volunteer program two years ago after her village faced a health crisis during the monsoon season when roads were blocked. "I felt helpless when my neighbor's child fell seriously ill and we couldn't reach the hospital," recalls Kamala. "That's when I decided to learn how to help my community during such emergencies." Today, Kamala serves 150 families across three villages, providing regular health checkups for pregnant women and children, blood pressure monitoring for elderly residents, first aid during emergencies, health education sessions for women's groups, and coordination with mobile medical units. Her transformation from a homemaker to a community health leader has inspired many other women in the region. She has successfully handled over 200 medical emergencies and has been instrumental in increasing vaccination rates in her area by 70%. "When I check on elderly Mrs. Sharma every week, I'm not just measuring her blood pressure," explains Kamala. "I'm also listening to her concerns, ensuring she takes her medicines, and making sure she doesn't feel alone. That's something no machine can do."
